Meditation and Relaxation

The words meditation and relaxation go hand in hand. But did you know that from a point of relaxation you can emerge more prepared to deal with a hectic world? When we take some time for ourselves on a daily basis to “stop and smell the roses” as it were, we create a place within our selves from which we can draw immense power to engage with the world around us. After all, we can remain in a physically relaxed state 24/7, but we can remain in a mentally sound, secure and calm state through the combination of meditation and relaxation.

We are all probably familiar with at least one scientific study affirming the benefits of meditation on the human body and mind. Known to lower anxiety levels and relief mild forms of depression, meditation is even known now to lower blood pressure levels as well. In today’s fast-paced world where we hardly ever get a moment to ourselves, meditation can relax and restore us and give us energy reserves needed to go back out there and do it all again.

Let’s try something right now:

Lay down on the floor with your arms resting comfortably at your sides. Now, starting at your feet and working your way up your legs to your torso to your shoulder, neck and head areas, visualize one by one, each section of your body melting into the floor. As you visualize this, take a second’s notice of your breathing. Has it slowed down and regulated itself in the process? Most likely it has. Continue breathing naturally while visualize each part of your body melting into the floor. As your body melts into the floor, allow the worries and anxieties of the day to melt away as well.

You have just engaged in one type of meditation and relaxation. And you don’t need to be lying on the floor to do this. Through a few simple techniques, you can learn to release and relax through quick meditation at any point during your day.

People often find that when they are tired or overwhelmed, a few minutes of meditation and relaxation techniques renews their body and mind and prepares them to continue on with their day.
