One of the main reasons why we don’t find happiness and contentment is because we’re not focused on what is happening now. Sometimes, when I’m at home, I’m busy thinking about things at work. Then, when I’m at work, I’m wasting time thinking about things that are going on at home. Do you find yourself guilty of this too?
It’s just one of those things. As you go through the day, you drift off and focus on past occurrences or start dreaming about tomorrow. You find yourself so involved with all these thoughts that the day just passes you by. Don’t worry, you’re not alone in this, most of us suffer from this ailment. If you’re all over the place in your mind except in the present, you’re not going to get much out of your day. And we both know, when the day’s gone, it’s gone forever.
I work from home and went through a few weeks where I could not switch off from work and focus on home. My family started suffering and I was really getting moody. We took our little girl to a water park and, all I could do, was think about what work needs to be done. It was then that I realized my error. I managed to switch off all irrelevant thoughts and just focused on enjoying my time with my family.
It energized me and I felt revitalized. To constantly be somewhere other than the here and now is just so draining. Enjoy the moment and focus on it. Take the time out to watch the sunset or walk on the beach. When you’re at work, put all your efforts into your job and, when you’re at home, unplug the work thoughts, and enjoy your family. Life is so short and you don’t want it to pass you by – your mind is such a powerful tool but you need to train it to focus – wherever you are, be there!
